Hutong, the Chinese restaurant on the 33rd floor of the Shard in London, remains closed following a fire in its kitchen on Tuesday 4th August.

The restaurant says it hopes to reopen soon and has been contacting customers with reservations to keep them updated.

A blaze started in the kitchen’s oven, which resulted in 100 people being evacuated from restaurants on the 31st, 32nd and 33rd floors.

There were no injuries and the fire was quickly extinguished by the building’s sprinkler system, however firefighters still attended the scene as per standard procedure. A spokesperson for the Shard confirmed the rest of the building was unaffected.

The Shard’s two other restaurants – Aqua Shard on the 31st floor and Oblix on the 32nd floor – reopened to the public yesterday.

A spokesperson for Hutong said: “Following the incident on Tuesday morning, Hutong remains closed although we hope to be open again very soon.”
