Palatial and cosmopolitan chic in Madrid

CHECK AVAILABILITY
COOLROOMS Atocha is a new concept of luxury hotel with 35 spacious rooms in a renovated building from 1852 in the heart of the Barrio de Las Letras in Madrid. It is a multi-hand project that unites the rigorous sensitivity of the Antana architecture studio, the stylistic fluidity in the interior design of Proyecto Singular and the poetic precision in the lighting of María Covarrubias. This complementary fusion results in an accommodation with soul, author, capable of uniting the comfortable with the stimulating. In other words: the hotel that Madrid lacked.

Cosmopolitan and palatial, COOLROOMS Atocha has a spectacular entrance guarded by the figure of the god Hermes in reference to the success and triumph of its former owner - high official of the Overseas Ministry and knight of the Order of Charles III -; and its passage of carriages, with roofs of 7 meters of height, leads in straight line to a secret garden with a pool.

Its rooms, gleefully disproportionate, offer a unique size in Madrid, and natural light bathes its design halfway between the classic and the contemporary. These include two Coolsuites which have become the favourites of hedonistic travellers, with their own private terrace on the rooftops of Madrid and its outdoor Jacuzzi.

COOLROOMS Atocha is located in the old palace of 1852 of D. Nemesio Sancha, high official of the Overseas Ministry and knight of the Order of Charles III. Previously it lodged a hermitage and a convent, and today the hotel’s bedrooms pick up the baton with a perfect fusion of palatial energy and the most sober contemporary design.

Its walls have witnessed the passing of time and the appearance of luxury in Madrid, as shown by the cast iron columns on the main floor -testimony of the architectural and artistic avant-garde at the time of its construction- or the original granite fountain that reminds of the arrival of running water to the building.

Overview

COOLROOMS Atocha offers 35 rooms of a unique size in Madrid (between 34 and 104m2). Its generous proportions and high ceilings refer to palatial sensations that have been declined by the interior designers of Proyecto Singular in two distinct styles.

The rooms on the first floor have a more masculine and industrial character – a loft type – and are equipped with microcement bathrooms and rough ironwork.

Those on the second floor are more classic and sophisticated, with bathrooms that play with black and white and convey a great sobriety and elegance.

The hotel has 5 Deluxe Rooms (34m4), 8 Premium Rooms (45m2), 10 Junior Suites (60m2), 7 Suites (70m2), 3 Master Suites (70-110m2) and 2 Coolsuites (90-104m2), each one of them designed individually to provide different experiences.

The star accommodations of COOLROOMS Atocha are undoubtedly its two CoolSuites, which in addition to having their own private terrace with Jacuzzi on the outside, pay tribute to the artistic energy of the capital.

The first reproduces the studio of a photographer, with old cameras, a small photography library and two exceptional viewpoints to the roofs and domes of Madrid’s sky.

The second recreates the magic of the workshops of the great artists and is an invitation to take the brushes and paintings available in the suite and capture a vision of what surrounds them.

In COOLROOMS Atocha chef Joseba Guijarro – owner of a Michelin star in his professional career and famous for his restaurant Casa Lita in Santander – proposes two well differentiated experiences: – In the Terrace-Restaurant of the hotel the future is the past. In other words: it serves the perfect fusion between a house of meals and a modern bistro whose flavors shake the memory, since they refer to the kitchen “of our grandmothers”. And all this with the best seasonal product and very little handling, using techniques that always incorporate some crispy, lighten sauces and resort to long cooking.

The result is hard-to-find delicacies: seasonal vegetables, hand-peeled, spoon dishes such as the best Madrid stew and fish and meat from high-quality suppliers. In addition, the menu introduces variations on a daily basis and plays with current concepts such as slowfood or organic cuisine.

The Pintxos Bar “El 34” recovers the concept of “microbocados” that Joseba Guijarro has made famous in his Casa Lita restaurant in Santander. Here the best raw material is declining in delicate works of culinary engineering in pocket format. A very exciting plan for the hotel’s clients and also for the pedestrians of the busy Atocha street, who can taste the particular vision of Joseba Guijarro of “less is more” in very authentic pinchos.

And not forgetting the bar exercises of Aritz Alfageme, which has turned the Lounge Bar of COOLROOMS Atocha into the preferred place to enjoy the best premium cocktails during Madrid’s evenings-nights.

COOLROOMS Atocha is located in the Barrio de las Letras, one of the most central points of the capital, a pleasant walk away from the Prado Museum, the majestic Plaza Mayor, the Retiro Park or the splendid Gran Vía.

The hotel’s 35 spectacular rooms are the best base of operations to embark on discovering the varied personality of its neighboring areas: from the multicultural and Castilian richness of Lavapiés to the rogue energy of Malasaña, the tolerant and carefree joy of Chueca or the stimulating agitation of Huertas, with one of the best restaurants in the city.
